Xylella Awareness Week spreads the word
The BRIGIT project coordinated the first ever Xylella Awareness Week during the first week of March 2021. The aim of Xylella Awareness Week was to share the progress made by the project, and to engage with different audiences to discuss risk factors associated with the plant pathogen Xylella fastidiosa if it were introduced into the UK.
To mark the occasion they organised four online workshops aimed at different audiences
- Workshops 1 and 2 (2 and 3 March ‘21) were for plant health inspectors. Slides or recordings of the events are available for inspectors at APHA.
- Workshop 3 (4 March ‘21) was for the horticulture trade, including nursery owners, landscapers, plant buyers and specifiers. (Agenda – pdf download) . You can view the slides from this event here.
- Workshop 4 (5 March ’21) – botanic and public gardens, environmental and conservation groups and interested members of the public – (Agenda – pdf download) This workshop was hosted by the Plant Network. Recordings of the workshop can be viewed here.
Others got involved with Xylella Awareness week too. Microbiologist and science communicator made Xylella his ‘microbe of the week’ tweeting a key facts graphic. European research project Biovexo shared advice on spotting Xylella symptoms and the British Society for Plant Pathology used the opportunity to highlight why plant pathology can be a great career.
